Administrator Marisa Eisner and board member Curtis Swinimer asked council to continue to appoint its members to Hillside's board of directors.

 About a year ago council decided to resign its right to have representation on the Lunenburg Crime Prevention Board, Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Rosedale Home for Special Care and the LaHave Manor Corporation adult residential centre.

 "As an administrator at Hillside, I wish to express my concern and disappointment," said Ms Eisner.

 She said over the past 25 years, the facility has been home to over 450 long-term residents and taxpayers of the Town of Bridgewater and the municipality.

 "By removing council representation from the board of Hillside, you potentially remove the role of advocate for your elderly constituents."

 The recommendation to withdraw its services from some boards came from the administrative focus group. It was reported there are nearly 40 committees that the 13 councillors are a part of. In reviewing the importance of council membership, chief administrative officer Tammy Wilson said the question was asked if the board or committee benefits the municipality. The result was the withdrawal from five boards.

 At the committee-of-the-whole meeting on October 2, Ms Wilson noted that Hillside Pines was the only board to disagree with council's decision. The remaining four boards did not voice an opinion on the matter.

 Councillor Don Zwicker wanted to see representation restored to the homes for special care and made a motion to rescind its motion and reappoint representatives on Hillside Pines, Harbour View Haven and Rosedale. But he later asked for the motion to be deferred to council for direction.

 "It's a bad move," said Councillor Zwicker about not being represented on the boards for homes for special care. We're sent here to represent. If we can't represent, why are we here?" he questioned.

 The motion to defer the matter to council for direction was defeated.

 The vote means that council will continue to not be represented on the Lunenburg Crime Prevention Board, Harbour View Haven, Hillside Pines, Rosedale Home and LaHave Manor.
