We have kicked up quite a stir in our attempt to raise some much-needed cash for local community projects. This spring we are putting on a show entitled "That Penis Thing" at fire halls, community centres, Royal Canadian Legions and the Sexual Health Centre to raise both funds and medical awareness. The show premiered at Martins River fire hall on April 4 to a full house and I can honestly inform you that it was incredibly well received, with much laughter, excitement and a standing ovation and nobody left disappointed.

 The reason for my letter is more to explain our show and maybe help people understand its content. The title has provoked some extreme responses as the word "penis" still seems to be a taboo description for that part of the anatomy.

 I can't pretend that I never expected resistance to the show and its title, but I have been a little taken aback by some of the more caustic comments and the removal of posters.

 I totally accept that everyone is entitled to an opinion as to whether something is offensive or not. The bottom line is, like it or not, close to half the population has one of their own and about 90 per cent of the other half are happy that they have.

 I admit our show has mature subject matter and is for adults only.

 However, it is in no way pornographic, has very little swearing and intends to embarrass no one. Our cast of five men and four women promise to give you a night of much hilarity to be remembered for a long time. 

 The only way to find out is to come and watch it. Your local fire departments and community projects depend on you to support them. I have been extremely impressed at the energy and resourcefulness of the committee members that organize these shows and events all year round to keep these projects going for your protection and use.

 Please, please, please, come along, have a good time, even protest if you like, but keep your local community projects alive and well.
