Musical Ride coming to townby Lisa BrownThe RCMP Musical Ride is coming to Bridgewater next month. Two shows will be presented August 5 and 6 at the South Shore Exhibition grounds as part of a nine-stop tour of the province. The ride is one of Canada’s most colourful traditions and most recognized icons. The troop of 32 horses and riders will perform a variety of cavalry drills choreographed to music. Members of the ride are police officers. All have at least two years of experience in active police work before volunteering for duty with the ride. Of the 32 riders, nine members were either born, raised or have served in Nova Scotia. The Musical Ride was developed in 1876 by early members of the North-West Mounted Police to display their riding ability and entertain the local community. It has evolved over the decades into a uniquely Canadian performance enjoyed by tens of thousands of spectators every year. This year, it is making 38 stops in Saskatchewan, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces. The August 5 show begins at 6 p.m. The August 6 show starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are now available at locations around the county. It is sponsored here by the Lunenburg County 4-H Council. posted on 07/19/11 |
