The studio's most recent project, which took Norbert Sattler and his team of artisans to the southern reaches of the United States, certainly continues that tradition.

 Last summer, they travelled to the University of South Florida to install 18 stained glass windows in that facility's Catholic Youth Centre.

 This July, they returned to install 10 more in another section of the facility.

 "We had done a whole sanctuary last year based on Hope and the Resurrection," explains artist Sue Obata of Obata Studios, who designed the windows. "This year, [they] wanted the windows in the small chapel done."

 The theme of the latest panels, Faith and Love, utilized biblical texts that are appropriate with those ideals.

 "It uses a new laminated glass process that produces windows that are lighter. Again, the space is different so you take into consideration the light and needs of that space," Ms Obata explains. "So they're lighter windows and quite modern. They're very different, but appropriate to the space."

 With the new laminated glass, the windows are able to reflect the bright Florida sunshine away with their lighter backs while at the same time displaying the bright colouring of the windows to the inside.

 "While we were there, Norbert also suggested a new font could be worked into the design because they are transforming the space that once was a students' centre into a chapel," Ms Obata says. "So we integrated the design from one of the Hope windows into the idea of making a glass font."

 The result is a contemporary, "visually fresh approach" which Ms Obata believes will be more in keeping with the youthful students who attend services there.

 "To have something new and different is good," she adds.
