RCMP issue warnings about scams COUNTY - Two scams just days apart in the Lunenburg area have prompted the Mounties to warn people to be on guard against fraudsters.
Police say an elderly Lunenburg woman was contacted on July 7 and advised that someone had tampered with her bank account. She was asked to withdraw a large sum of money from the account and provide it to a person posing as a bank investigator at another location. The Mounties are reminding people that the banking industry does not conduct investigations in such a manner. On July 10, a Garden Lots woman received a phone call advising that her computer was sending out fraudulent e-mails. She was asked to change her security settings to allow someone else to fix the problem for her. Had she done so, the other person would have gained access to all information on the computer. Mounties are asking anyone who receives similar calls of either variety or about any other possible scam to contact them. posted on 07/19/11 |
