Design deadline for school mosaic extendedby Robert Hirtle![]() The deadline for design submissions for the floor mosaic that will grace the foyer of the new Bluenose Academy has been extended to August 22. LUNENBURG - The deadline for artists submitting designs for the creation of a floor mosaic which will grace the foyer of Bluenose Academy has been extended to August 22.
As part of the construction of the new facility, financial allowances were included to allow for the eight-foot circular piece of artwork which will lie just within the building's front doors. Back in May, students from Lunenburg Academy, Centre Consolidated and Riverport and District Elementary schools worked as classes to submit drawings or words that describe what they see the new school meaning to them. Those ideas were turned over to Rebecca Roher and George Cho, two members of NSCAD's Lunenburg Community Studio Residency Program, whose job it was to organize their suggestions, then put out a call for submissions to area artists asking them to come up with a design. The deadline for submissions was originally set for June 17, but that has now been extended. Five finalists for the winning design of the mosaic, which will be made of three-quarter-inch square tiles and limited to 22 colours, will be selected by the main foyer committee with the winning entry ultimately being chosen by the student community. The winning artist will receive a one-of-a-kind earthenware platter created by Mr. Cho. Submission details are available at http://www.ba.ednet.ns.ca. Artists may submit their designs via e-mail to ba@ssrsb.ca or by mail to P.O. Box 1823, Lunenburg, B0J 2EO. posted on 07/19/11 |
