COUNTY - Jonathan Lewis is looking for fellow business owners and volunteers to help fund and deliver Christmas dinners to the area's less fortunate.
Mr. Lewis, of Eastport Financial in Mahone Bay, surprised people last year when he purchased all the turkeys he could find from area businesses and delivered them to low-rent apartments in Bridgewater. Last year's giveaway was a last-minute event but this year Mr. Lewis has partnered with Street Connection to help with the preparation and distribution of complete turkey dinners. Street Connection is a mobile soup kitchen that provides food and clothing to low-income families in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Each week the bus delivers soup, sandwiches, bagels, bananas, yogurt and apple juice to selected locations throughout the Halifax area. On December 21 Street Connection will be in Bridgewater giving away fully prepared turkey dinners. Prior to the event, Mr. Lewis will be distributing flyers which will state the location and time. Those who are able to pick up their dinners can do so and others who do not have transportation can call and ask for delivery. Mr. Lewis has $5,000 to donate to the cause and hopes that 10 area businesses will come on board with $500 each to make the event a huge success. Since the meals will come fully prepared, the only thing Mr. Lewis needs is other businesses to step up and volunteers to help deliver the meals. To volunteer or to arrange to have a meal delivered, call 530-5433. posted on 11/23/11 |
