Battle of Liverpool
Sunday July 5, 2009. The re-enactment was staged at Fort Point Lighthouse Park, Liverpool much to the joy of onlookers who had gathered to watch the tale unfold. On the eve of Sept 13, 1780, two American ships, the Surprise and the Delight sailed into Liverpool Harbour to exact some revenge on a local privateer captain. They were lead ashore by a traitor. The Kings Orange Rangers had been celebrating that day and offered little resistance. When all seemed lost, Liverpool's own Simeon Perkins rallied the militia and saved the day. Perkins negotiated an exchange of captains and the Americans set sail vowing never to return to Liverpool again.
The re-enactors made history come to life. Their dedication to detail made the event memorable.- Paul McGrath
