Guitarists featured

Talented guitarists Scott Macmillan and Brian Doyle will perform at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester, August 18, and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, August 19, as part of a five-concert Nova Scotia tour.

Since meeting in 1995, the "Duo Guitarists" have been blending their intuitions in fresh and innovative ways, resulting in captivating performances and exciting and always expanding musical experiences.

Their repertoire, which spans the breadth of the musical spectrum from the Highland to the blues, is known to mesmerize audiences with a display of remarkable imaginative guitar interplay.

Both concerts, which begin at 7:30 p.m., are presented by Musique Royale.

Celebrated Canadian pianist Valerie Tryon will be the featured artist at the second edition of the 2012 Music at the Three Churches Summer Concert Series, presented at St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, July 22 at 8 p.m.

Ms Tryon's recital will include music by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt.

New exhibit opens at Moorings

A new exhibit featuring the works of two talented Canadian artists opened July 16 at the Moorings Gallery in Mahone Bay.

"A is for Anna," a compilation of creations by Anna Cameron and Anna Syperek, will be on display until August 4.

Ms Cameron, who resides in New Brunswick, has an extensive background in painting and lithography, earning her bachelor of fine arts degree (BFA) from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver.

Her works, which explore the figurative and the abstract and involve both paint and mixed media collage, have been exhibited at a variety of venues across Canada.

Ms Syperek, who holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, currently teaches art at St. Francis Xavier University where she also operates a community printmaking shop.

Her work has been displayed across North America and Europe in both public and private collections, as well as at the Canada Council and the Nova Scotia Art Banks.

'Nunsense' returns

After a sold-out string of performances in Bridgewater in June, Dan Coggins' hilarious musical comedy "Nunsense" is coming to Lunenburg.

Directed by Karen Whynot, the play recounts the story of the "Little Sisters of Hoboken" as they try to raise money to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by Sister Julia, the convent cook.

The production stars Amber Howard-Hughes as Sister Mary Hubert, Lisa Joudrey as Sister Mary Amnesia, Mary Spinney as Sister Mary Leo, Anne Stockdale as Sister Robert Anne and Michelle Tipert as Sister Mary Regina, the Mother Superior.

A fundraiser for St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the play also features the musical talents of Caileigh Hull, Adam Tipert and Jonathan Whynot.

The Lunenburg performance, which will take place at St. John's parish hall on Townsend Street, will be for one evening only, July 23, beginning at 7 p.m.
